We had no power for 22 hours yesterday. No heating, no phones (even the mobile phone was down), no TV… gah! no Internet!! I had to read a book! Can you imagine? 
It dropped down to 11 Degrees C inside our house during the day. It was 10 Degrees outside. It got me thinking about how soft I’ve become compared to my ancestors for whom keeping the entire house at a pleasant Spring day temperature in the middle of Winter would be unfathomable. What happens in the (near, I fear) future when our excesses catch up with us?

… So how did we manage yesterday? A nice roaring fire in the fireplace, plenty of hot coffee because our stove top is gas, many layers of clothing, wind-up torches and candles, and plenty of good reading material.
